Biology/Toxicology Pre-Physical Therapy Program

This track prepares students for entry into a physical therapy program. Students should maintain a 3.5 GPA, and score in the upper 50% on the GRE to be considered competitive for admission.

Courses to take to prepare for admission to Physical Therapy graduate programs

For the Pre-Physical Therapy track leading to a B.S. with a major in Biology, students should:

• Choose Math 201 Calculus and Math 208 Elementary Statistics for their math requirement

• Choose the following courses as part of their 23 elective Biology credit hours: • Bio 225/226 Anatomy and Physiology, • Bio 340 Microbiology, • Bio 325 Advanced Human Physiology

• Take Physics 201/202 General Physics

• Take Psych 101 General Psychology I (counts for Tier II Core)and • Psych 209 Growth and Development

• Take Exercise Science 190 Appl. Human Structure, Function,& Dev. for the Exer. Sciences, • Exercise Science 308 Kinesiology, and • Exercise Science 309 Physiology of Exercise

• Take Rec 261 Medical Terminology

• Take Soc 111 Principles of Sociology

• Take Phil 215 Ethics (counts for Tier II core)

Most Physical Therapy programs also require 40 or more hours of observation/volunteer work through direct association with a licensed physical therapist in a clinical setting. Course credit for this can be received through Bio 493 Professional Internship.
